In her first year at The Walt Disney Company, Tara Duncan spearheaded
the formation of Onyx Collective, a premium content brand focused on
elevating artists of color and underrepresented voices, delivering
quality scripted and nonfiction stories to Hulu. Onyx Collective’s
debut project, “Summer of Soul (Or When the Revolution Could Not Be
Televised),” won numerous accolades, including the Academy Award®
for Best Documentary feature. “Summer of Soul” was distributed
theatrically and across Hulu, Disney+ and ABC. Onyx Collective quickly
followed this success with the Emmy® Award-winning docuseries “The
1619 Project” in collaboration with Nikole Hannah Jones and the
NYTimes, Peabody Award-winning documentary “:Aftershock” directed
by Tonya Lewis Lee and Paula Eiselt, scripted drama “Reasonable
Doubt” and comedy series “Deli Boys.” Duncan’s slate of
creative collaborators have included visionary storytellers Ryan
Coogler, Destin Daniel Cretton, Prentice Penny, Kerry Washington,
Manolo Caro and Natasha Rothwell.

Duncan has a proven track record for identifying talent and launching
popular shows. Under her prior leadership at Freeform, “Cruel
Summer” debuted as the network’s most-watched series ever and a
breakout hit on Hulu.

Through her production company, tetravision, she executive produced
the docuseries “Hair Tales,” alongside Tracee Ellis Ross, Michaela
angela Davis and Oprah Winfrey; “The Other Black Girl,” an
adaptation of Zakiya Dalila Harris’ acclaimed horror comedy novel;
and limited series “Under The Bridge” starring Riley Keough and
Lily Gladstone.

Before joining Disney, Duncan was one of the first creative executives
at Netflix, where her slate included hits “Orange Is the New
Black” and “Narcos.” She also developed series with Baz
Luhrmann, Spike Lee, Lily Wachowski and Justin Simien. Duncan started
her career as an assistant at Section Eight, George Clooney and Steven
Soderbergh’s production company. She is a graduate of Loyola
Marymount University.
